After Mayorov's death in 1991 many of his works have left Russia and highly appreciated by collectioners from all over the World.
When in Autumn of 1997 Mr. Chirack the President of French Republic visited Russia and dined with Mr. Yeltsin the Russian President complained that nobody knew contemporary Russian artists. Mr. Chirack told Mr. Yeltsin that he had recently bought a water color by a very interesting contemporary Russian artist Igor Mayorov whose works are even represented in the Rostropovich's collection known for its quality. Afterwards in May-June of 1998 Mayorov's exhibition was organized in Moscow.
Igor Mayorov was born in 1946 in Leningrad.

During communist time he got prisoned for his brother painted a mustache to a Lenin's portrait. But in spite of the circumstances the artist continued working. His media was water color.
He is famous with portraits and cityscapes where he depicted St. Petersburg.
He died in 1991.
In Russia his works are considered as National Heritage.
